Hey Donna,

I’ve got a question for you, and don’t overthink it. When someone asks how you’re doing… are you actually fine, or is that just the easiest answer so you don’t have to get into it?

Because if we’re being honest, “I’m fine, how are you?” is basically a social script at this point. We say it automatically. It keeps things polite, it keeps things moving, and it avoids going anywhere real.

I’ve been noticing how often we say that, and how rarely it’s really true. Not in a dramatic, everything-is-falling-apart kind of way. Most of the women I talk to have their lives handled. You’ve done what needed to be done, you’ve built something that works, and from the outside everything looks solid. And still, there’s that feeling. Nothing you can point to exactly, just something a little off.

Not enough to blow anything up, but enough that you feel it when things get quiet.

So instead of digging into it, we say “I’m fine” and move on. I get it. I’ve done it too. It’s easier than opening a door you’re not sure you’re ready to walk through. But that feeling doesn’t just disappear because we ignore it—it usually gets louder.

This month I’ve been thinking a lot about visibility, but not in the “be louder online” kind of way. I mean in your real life. Being honest about where you are, letting yourself admit you might want something different, and not immediately talking yourself out of it. Because if we’re being honest, most of us aren’t too much… we’ve just gotten really comfortable playing small.

If any of that is landing, don’t go into full “fix everything” mode. Just start by listening. I’ve been talking about this on the podcast, and it’s probably the easiest place to begin: https://360balancedliving.com/podcasts

Start with “I’m Fine Is a Lie — And We Both Know It” or “You Did Everything Right… So Why Doesn’t It Feel Right?” Those two tend to hit pretty quickly.

And if you don’t want to just sit with all of this in your own head, come to Legacy Lounge this month.
